Autumn has officially arrived! And now that the weather is cooling down a little (hopefully), we may all be able to emerge from the air-conditioning before dark and get a little exercise. What better way to do that than stretching your legs with your dog pal? Here are a few super spots that are dog friendly as well as fun for the humans that join them!

Stringybark Drive Park, Aspley/Chermside West:

This is a fabulous walking track all along the Little Cabbage Tree Creek. There is paving all along it making it easy going for all, especially if you’re bringing some short-legged people with you on bikes or in a pram. There are several little bridges where you can stop to check out turtles and ducks in the water. There are couple of little playgrounds for the small people and an off leash area at the cul-de-sac end of Stringybark Drive if your fur-kid needs to burn a bit more energy romping with some others.

John Goss Reserve, Chermside West:

This is another little gem. There’s a great off-leash area and some agility equipment too. There is a covered area for you to have a little rest in the shade, toilets, BBQ facilities and a great kids park too. Remember: Dog parks are NOT for ALL dogs – if your dog is anxious around others, or you’re anxious about other dogs in the park, avoid it!

Tallowwood Place Park, Bridgeman Downs:

This is a lovely area for going walking. Most of the track is shaded and is easy walking even on a warmer day. There isn’t much passing traffic and follows the Cabbage Tree Creek.

Downfall Creek Reserve, Virginia:

If you’re looking for a bit more space for free-style running, Downfall Creek Reserve may be the one for you! It’s one of the largest off-leash parks in Brisbane. There are a couple of water spots and picnic shelters around. The beauty of this one is that there are no fences to get in the way – just be sure your buddy is well-trained to stop and return on cue. Remember: You are responsible for your dog – if he or she gets anxious around other pets or people, off leash runs are NOT a good idea

Kedron Brook Floodway & Kokoda Park, Grange:

This popular green strip is frequented by pooches that like a run followed by a dip in the brook. It’s also frequented by cyclists and walkers so makes for a sociable spot in the mornings and evenings especially. There are several access points to the brook, and a couple of coffee shops en route make for a motivator if you’re so inclined. Beware in stormy seasons though, this is a floodway and water levels rise very quickly.

Decker Park, Brighton:

This is a great all-rounder for those looking for a little bit of sea, sand and sun. There’s an off-leash area with agility equipment, a playground for little ones, a bike track and picnic facilities. Great for the whole family! Remember: Dog parks are NOT for ALL dogs – if your dog is anxious around other dogs or people, or you’re anxious about other dogs in the park, avoid it!

So get out there and have some fun this weekend! We look forward to hearing about your adventures at out next visit; and if you have a couple of photos you’d like to share, post them to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/healthypetmobilevet). We’d love to see what you’ve been up to!
