You’ve probably heard plenty of talk about “don’t feed pets fatty foods”, “don’t feed chocolate”, “don’t feed onion”, “don’t feed avo”, “don’t feed raisins….” but perhaps not quite so much about what you can give your pet as a special treat for Christmas day! And it always helps to have them busy with their own tasty morsels, rather than slobbering on guests legs whilst waiting for a tidbit or stealing from the dinner table when Aunt Agatha is watching! So here’s a little recipe to keep you, your guests and your best fur pal grinning.

Purebred dog outdoors on a sunny summer day.

Because we’re in Sunny Australia, we’ll be making something to keep your buddy cool, and unlike the preparation time and skill involved for the human Christmas dishes, this is super-easy to make.

Chrissy Lunch Ice-Lolly:

Ingredients:

50g Lean Beef, Chicken, Duck, Kangaroo (Any of these can be mince or chopped into 1cm cubes)

50g Diced Carrot, Peas and Corn

50g Diced Potato

A pinch of Bouillon (no salt) – this is not essential, so if you don’t have a no salt version, just leave it out.

500ml water

Method:

Bring the water to the boil. Reduce the heat to a gentle boil, add the diced potato and cover for 5 mins. Add the meat and Bouillon, cover and cook for another 5 mins. Lastly add the frozen carrot, peas and corn and cook for another 5 mins. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Pour into a freezer-safe container and pop in the freezer until solid. If your pet is a Kong fan, simply plug the little bottom hole with peanut butter and pour in – keep upright in the freezer! When it comes time for serving, simply hand-over the Kong or if using a tupperware or other plastic container, loosen the ice-lolly from the tub by dipping the container boiling water and serve to your droolly pal outdoors!

Let us know how your pal enjoys his/her Chrissy Lunch and check back in a couple of days for another recipe for a “Christmas Pudding Treat”. Merry Christmas!
